It was in 1918 that Louis Soualle, the great-grandfather of the current owners, acquired this vineyard, which his descendants have meticulously managed ever since.
The vineyard, a single contiguous plot, is situated on the high terrace of the Pomerol plateau. Its subsoil is composed of blue clay – smectites – which provides a cool substrate particularly well-suited to the Merlot grape variety. This king of grapes in Pomerol brings finesse and complexity to its wines.
Château Gazin has always practiced traditional viticulture that respects its environment: tilling and cover cropping, manual labor and harvesting, and the preservation of wildlife and biodiversity.
The harvest, vinified without sulfur, is aged for 16 months in oak barrels before being bottled at the Château.
