It is difficult to know when wine production began at the estate. However, we do know that the Château Camensac charterhouse was built in the 18th century, most likely by the Popp family, who owned the estate at the time. In 1855, Château Camensac, managed by Bruno Popp, was elevated to the rank of fifth classified growth in the Médoc classification. Sold by the Popp family at the end of the 19th century, the estate was acquired by the H. Cuvelier & Fils wine merchants a few years before the outbreak of the First World War. Under the aegis of the Cuvelier house, a white wine was marketed under the name "Haut-Camensac". Failing like many wineries, Château Camensac was bought in 1964 by the Forner family, who also owned Marqués de Càceres, a renowned wine in Rioja (Spain), and Château Larose-Trintaudon. By modernizing the facilities and replanting the vineyard, the Forners restored Camensac's reputation before selling it after some forty years of successful work.
Camensac, acquired in 2005 by the Merlaut family, is now managed by the Chasse-Spleen team, led by Céline Villars-Foubet and Jean-Pierre Foubet. For several vintages now, it has been one of the regular wines that wine lovers should keep a close eye on, especially since the prices remain reasonable.
