The particularity of the 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques lies in its exposure which gives the vines almost an additional hour of solar exposure per day, which makes it possible to obtain very ripe berries and an extremely rare concentration. For many, Clos Saint-Jacques has the makings of a Grand Cru.

19/20 Jancis Robinson: "100% new oak. 70% whole bunch. Very deep purple. Very heady and concentrated – hard to tell 2008 from the nose! Wonderful energy and balance. Just great intensity and liveliness. Like an energy drink, with blackberries. Very fine tannins. Lighter than some years but wonderfully long and clean."

Details

Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, this estate has the particularity of having been founded and being managed by a woman. Which is rather rare in the region. An agronomist, Sylvie Esmonin first cut her teeth as an oenologist in several estates before joining the family estate, then called Michel Esmonin (named after her father) then Michel Esmonin et Fille, in the 1990s. It was in 1998 that she struck out on her own and vinified her own wines. The entire estate is cultivated organically and covers part of the famous premier cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a plot of 1.60 ha in one piece. Clos Saint Jacques is one of the flagships of Gevrey Chambertin.
