"Dark ruby color with purplish reflections, slightly shiny on the edge. Au nose, an inviting bouquet of fine nougat caramel, ripe plum, with a touch of blackcurrant and tobacco spice. The palate is medium-bodied, delicately spicy, mineral and fresh, with notes of red cherry. A balanced gastronomic wine, ready to be enjoyed." 93/100 Falstaff (January 2023)

Details

Formerly a camp ensuring the defense of the village of Saint-Émilion, Château Clos Fourtet is still today a historic monument entirely surrounded by walls. It has the particularity of having the most beautiful cellars in Saint-Emilion, buried in underground quarries. For many years, he produced wines below the potential of his terroir. However, since 1988, thanks to the work of the Lurton family, Clos Fourtet wines have regained all their charm. The estate was bought in 2001 by Philippe Cuvelier, former boss of the Guilbert paper group. The vintage is in the process of being converted to biodynamics, and new mass selections have been undertaken under the aegis of Stéphane Derenoncourt. To top it off, a new vat room was inaugurated from the 2014 vintage.

The grape varieties, composed of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, offer a powerful and distinguished wine. Developing very flattering red fruit aromas, Clos Fourtet wines are also full-bodied, fleshy, and have excellent aging potential.
