98/100 Jeffe Leve : "This just keeps inching up the scale. Texturally, this is incredible. Silky, opulent, and perhaps decadent, the fruit is perfectly ripe, sweet fresh and long, with a finish that seems endless. This is so good now. And my bet is, in the future, it is only going to get better and better."

Details

Château Belair was renamed Belair-Monange in honor of the grandmother of Christian Moueix, the sole owner of the property since 2008. His son Édouard has taken up residence in this premier grand cru classé B. He oversaw the colossal project of consolidating the troglodyte cellars. This work allowed access to the plateau, which had become too unstable for mechanical equipment, and thus completed the titanic work of uprooting, remodeling, and replanting a vineyard on which terraces with low stone walls were recreated to maintain the soil on this steep slope. The southern, and especially southeastern, slope (6.5 hectares) has played a predominant role in the revival of the great wine since 2009. The Château Magdelaine vineyard (not to be confused with Clos La Madeleine) is now part of Belair-Monange. Only 12 hectares are in production, out of a potential 25.
