Sémillon and Sauvignon in equal quantities. The vines occupy 2 hectares of soil that is more clayey than the rest of the estate, a soil that seems ideal for white wines. After hand-harvesting and careful sorting, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with aging in the same containers to preserve the fruit and freshness of the cuvée.

A very pure, airy nose that invites you to dive into the subtle notes of apricot, white peach, honeysuckle, and young rose petals and jasmine. Still as pure and refined on the palate, with freshness and a tangy side of English candy and lemon tart, but generous in texture.

Details

The Guinaudeau family has its own vineyard in Pomerol, with the cult Château Lafleur – a close neighbor of Pétrus – while Château Grand Village is located in the commune of Mouillac, right next to Fronsac, which is nicknamed the most Médoc appellation on the right bank. The vines are planted on limestone similar to that of the Saint-Émilion plateau. This complex equation of inimitable factors results in "one of the best Bordeaux" according to the 2020 Bettane and Desseauve Guide – which is no small feat considering that Bordeaux has over 10,000 châteaux.

The Guinaudeaus gained their notoriety following the acquisition of Château Lafleur in Pomerol in 1985, although they had already been practicing their craft since 1980 at Château Grand Village, their 17th-century family estate with 20 hectares of vines. A change of direction orchestrated in the early 2000s, accompanied by the arrival of the new generation, Julie and Baptiste, has slowly propelled this simple Bordeaux wine toward qualitative horizons rarely encountered at this level. An immense effort to identify the best plots and select the plant material was completed in 2017 and today allows for the combination of exceptional geology with massal selections that are the envy of all winemakers. A nursery on the property has made it possible to reproduce the best Bouchet (Cabernet Franc) directly from Château Lafleur.

The vines receive the same care as the wines produced in the Pomerol appellation, and the work is carried out by the same teams. Everything is manual, from pruning and disbudding to harvesting and sorting. Extractions are moderate, and the aging process is immensely meticulous. The new barrels used, approximately 30% per year, are then sent to Château Lafleur to continue their life.

Spectacular and truly accessible Bordeaux wines that are models of balance and precision. The refined structure and great attention to detail, so notable at Lafleur, are unequivocally reflected in the wines of Château Grand Village. A property where "small" vintages do not exist and which has very few equivalents on the market.
