96/100 Cellar Tracker (2021) : "What a treat to try! Promontory’s first vintage and at 13 years, it did not feel like that at all. This wine is going to go the distance with its velvety tannins and its balance. There was some great acidity to this wine and there was still no shortage of dark blackberries, cherries and blueberries. In another 5 years I can see more secondary and tertiary flavors presiding over the wine but for now, it seems to be in that transition and I really like it. This wine has something for everyone. If you like the Napa fruit it is still there and if you like those savory, herbal flavors they are starting to appear at this point. Hopefully I will get a chance to taste this again at some point."

Details

Located on the steep slopes of the Vaca Mountains at over 600 meters above sea level, the Promontory vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir of volcanic soils and clay. Acquired in 2008 by the Harlan family, this property quickly gained worldwide renown. The estate takes its name from the rocky promontory that rises above the vineyard, overlooking the surrounding valleys.

The winery is carefully vinified in concrete vats and aged for 30 months in French oak barrels.
