After approximately six years of searching for the ideal terroir, in 1982 Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael acquired 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the west face of Mount St. Helens in Knights Valley.
This estate represents the fulfillment of a man's dream. A lifelong enthusiast of Bordeaux and Burgundy wines, Sir Peter Michael envisioned, from the outset, making his estate a benchmark for the finest Californian wines.
Renowned for their elegance and produced in limited quantities, the wines of Peter Michael Winery are among the most prestigious labels in American winemaking.
Produced since 1988, Peter Michael Winery's "Papots" Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Blend is a Knights Valley wine. Taking its name from the poppy, a flower typical of California, this cuvée is made from vines planted in 1989 and 1999 on the slopes of Mount St. Helens. Located at an altitude of over 420 meters, this terroir, resting on volcanic soils, gives rise to one of the estate's most emblematic wines.
