Details

Born in 1777, Nicole Barbe Ponsardin married François Clicquot in 1798. Widowed at the age of 27, she took over her late husband's business. While Europe was in flames, she managed to ship her wines around the world. Bold and imaginative, she presented her champagne to all the courts of Europe. Dedicated to perfection, she roamed the cellars at night to ensure the proper maturation of her cuvées. She invented rosé and vintage champagne, the riddling tables used to clarify sparkling wines, purchased plots in the best vineyards, and actively fought against counterfeiting. Madame Veuve Clicquot died in 1866, at the age of 89.

Created in homage to Madame Clicquot, the La Grande Dame cuvée is marked by the pursuit of excellence: choice of grapes, very specific vinification, complexity of the blend from eight Grands Crus and a minimum of six years of aging to reach maturity.
