Established in Urville, in the heart of the Côte des Bar since 1808, the Drappier family cultivates 40 hectares of its own vineyards. Charles de Gaulle appreciated the wines of the estate and visited regularly, as a neighbor. The 12th-century cellars bear witness to the long history of viticulture in the region, developed by the Cistercian monks of Clairvaux Abbey.
The wines currently maturing there are shipped to the finest tables on five continents. Drappier is among the best producers of Pinot Noir, which represents 70% of the estate's plantings, compared to 15% for Chardonnay and 15% for Pinot Meunier. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the Urville vineyards, as well as from the Montagne de Reims, Bouzy, and Ambonnay. The Chardonnay grapes come from the Aube region and Cramant. Nearly 75 hectares of vineyards, each with its own unique geology and climate, contribute to Drappier's production.
The Drappier style is above all a winemaking approach resolutely focused on lightness and authenticity: the use of sulfur and sugar is minimal, allowing the wine to truly shine. This house has risen to the highest level and ranks among the finest producers in the Aube region and indeed in all of Champagne, particularly appealing to lovers of characterful Champagne.
