The identity of the Méo-Camuzet estate, a Burgundian jewel located in the Côte-de-Nuits region, has long been linked to politics. Étienne Camuzet is known for being the winemaker who, at the beginning of the 20th century, endowed his estate with its impressive collection of vintages (Richebourg Grand Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, etc.), and also for having served as a member of parliament for the Côte-d'Or region from 1902 to 1932.

After the death of his daughter Maria Noirot in 1959, Jean Méo, a close relative, took over the reins of the estate and gave it its current name: Méo-Camuzet. At the time, Jean-Méo worked as a technical advisor to General de Gaulle. He then headed the Union Générale des Pétroles (General Petroleum Union), before returning to politics in 1979 as an economic advisor to Jacques Chirac, and later as a Member of the European Parliament.

Unable to combine his winemaking and political careers, Jean Méo sold his wines in barrels to the Burgundy wine merchants for a long time, and it wasn't until 1985 that the Méo-Camuzet estate began selling its wines under its own name.

His son, Jean-Nicolas Méo, took over the estate in 1989 after receiving a good education, having been mentored by the legendary Henri Jayer.
