Brilliant pale yellow robe. Intense yet tightly focused nose of citrus with a striking minerality. The nose reveals a characteristic austerity and rigor, but also great complexity. The Triassic limestone is rather poor on the Windsbuhl vineyard, and the soils are shallow, particularly on the upper part of the Clos where the Riesling is planted. This imparts incredible elegance and delicacy to the Windsbuhl wines, which always possess a lively, mouthwatering acidity. The finish is delicate and the wine's structure lends itself to a medium body and a dry finish.

Details

A tireless ambassador for his wines and the region, Olivier Humbrecht, the first Frenchman to hold a Master of Wine degree, has long understood the importance of working in the vineyard. He converted the Zind-Humbrecht estate to biodynamics in 1999, and is one of its best ambassadors, also serving as president of the Biodyvin label. This type of cultivation has allowed him to overcome botrytis and reduce alcohol levels.

The wines have evolved over the years and now assert a resolutely dry style, with large barrels aging them several meters underground. Like all great Alsace wines, they reach their full potential after a few years or decades of aging. The Clos Windsbuhl is a must-try, and the Rangen de Thann stands out with age.
