Details

Catherine de Bastérot inherited the family estate, previously managed by her father Gabriel Barthélemy, in 1778. Pierre Merman, a wine and brandy broker, bought some of the land from her in 1788. Antoine, one of her children, took over the reins when he died in 1818. His wife Marie-Caroline Batré succeeded him when he died in 1843. Their two sons, Georges and Jules, shared the estate after his death nine years later. The latter took over the land located at the place called Marbuzet (his brother kept the château and several adjoining hectares). He built a residence there a few years later. The wine merchant Fernand Ginestet acquired the property in 1918. He then incorporated it into Cos d'Estournel, which he had recently acquired. His daughter Arlette entrusted the management of the property to Bruno Prats, one of her sons, after inheriting it in 1971. He vinified the grapes from the vineyard located around the mansion built by Jules Merman separately from 1994 (the Château de Marbuzet stamp, later to become Château Marbuzet, was until the previous year used for the wine made from the young vines of the property). The Prats brothers sold the estate to the Bernard Taillan trading company in 1998. The businessman Michel Reybier, owner of the Justin Bridoux company, bought it from him at the end of 2000.
