At the Prieuré Saint-Jean-de-Bédian, history is yours to witness. Cistercian monks began cultivating vines in these Pézenas terroirs as early as 1152. Several figures have succeeded one another at the helm of this iconic estate, starting with Alain Roux, who planted exceptional plant material in the 1970s, notably sourcing Syrahs from Domaine Gérard Chave and Château de Beaucastel, Grenache from Château Rayas, and Mourvèdre from Domaine Tempier. In addition to this formidable plant heritage, the estate benefits from a mosaic of soils, plots, exposures, and microclimates.
Since 2015, the year it was acquired by industrialist Alexander Pumpyanskiy, the company's ambition has been to revive the great wines of the past. Benoît Pontenier, now at the helm, has instilled a new style, creating patiently aged wines that are lightly made, very pure, mouth-watering, and caressing to the touch. The reds, vinified with a proportion of whole grapes and aged primarily in oak barrels, are floral, both intense and delicate.
