Details

For the owners of Château Pontet-Canet, passing on traditional winemaking expertise is essential. Given current challenges and the desire to establish Château Pontet-Canet as an estate of absolute excellence, the property converted to biodynamics in 2004 under the leadership of Jean-Michel Comme. This project, spanning over thirty years, is unique among Bordeaux's great vintages. Jean-Michel Comme, replaced by Mathieu Bessonet in 2020, has embodied at Pontet-Canet the vision of modern and conscious viticulture in every respect thanks to biodynamics and a comprehensive approach that respects nature, wine, and people. This humane, environmental, and viticultural approach has contributed to making Pontet-Canet one of the jewels of Bordeaux.

The 40- to 45-year-old vines cover nearly 81 hectares. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grape varieties are cultivated with the utmost care, to the point where they no longer use tractors in the vineyards, but horses, which are now one of the emblems of the estate's attention to the terroir. Pruned using the Médoc double Guyot method, the vines are cultivated on Quaternary gravel soils.

Château Pontet-Canet obtained Biodyvin and Ecocert certifications in 2010, as well as Demeter certification in 2014.
