Domaine Dujac is located in Burgundy. Viticulture has been practiced on these lands since the 11th century, but the estate itself was founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses. This heir to a renowned biscuit factory (Belin biscuits) wanted to pursue a career in viticulture. His vocation came from his father, a great wine lover who never hesitated to visit the winemakers.
Jacques Seysses therefore decided at the age of 25 to leave the biscuit factory to spend several years learning winemaking at the Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay. He then purchased the five hectares of vines belonging to the Marcel Graillet estate in Morey-Saint-Denis and renamed it Dujac. The estate's wines were first sold to the merchants before being bottled on the estate starting in 1969.
Domaine Dujac: A Transition to Organic Farming
Domaine Dujac expanded from five to eleven hectares in 1977, then from eleven to fifteen and a half hectares in 2005. Jeremy Seysses, along with his wife Diana and his brother Alec, joined Jacques at the helm of the estate in 1998. Dujac began producing wine beyond the Côte de Nuits in 2014, following the lease of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Nuits.
The estate embodies a strong vision of great Burgundy, strongly influenced by whole-grape vinification. These grapes enhance the unique aromatic finesse of Pinot, even if, in a young wine, the tannins appear vegetal and somewhat rigid. The long aging process (20 years or more) fully reflects the chosen approach of the production, with the emergence of often sublime tertiary bouquets. With a superb heritage of terroirs, the estate further expanded in 2005 with prestigious plots (Malconsorts, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Chambertin) and in 2014 with vines in Puligny-Montrachet.
