93/100 Cellar Tracker : "Rock solid Bordeaux at 38. Still showing a ton of ripe dark fruit (dark plums, black cherries, black currants) as well as graphite and green bell pepper on the nose. Medium + intensity of flavors. The palate is a little more tertiary, though still feels younger than it really is. It adds mushrooms, and pyrazines express themselves as crushed red pepper and dried mint rather than green bell pepper. Still a lot of graphite, and a lovely astringency throughout that reads a little more Pauillac than Margaux to me. The fruits are pushed to the finish, but they're just as fresh and ripe as on the nose."

Details

A 4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Prieuré-Lichine showcases all the typical characteristics of the superb Margaux appellation, located on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. Château du Prieuré de Cantenac became Château Prieuré-Lichine following its acquisition by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of Wine," in 1951. Upon his death in 1989, his son Sacha took over the reins of the estate until 1999, when the property became part of the Ballande group.

Château Prieuré-Lichine produces a Margaux from a 77.5-hectare vineyard. Planted on Garonne gravel typical of the Margaux appellation, the vines, averaging 30 years old, benefit from an exceptional terroir.
