Domaine Alliet has been managed by Philippe Alliet and his wife Claude since 1978. The 17-hectare estate's vines, primarily composed of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, are planted in the communes of Chinon and Cravant-les-Coteaux, some of which are 70 years old. The estate boasts superb plots ideally located, particularly on the steep Noiré hillside, planted on clay-limestone soil with a full south exposure. Philippe Alliet practices sustainable pest management, placing particular emphasis on yield control.
The discreet Claude and Philippe Alliet were the creators of a new style in Chinon in the 1990s. Their cuvées Vieilles Vignes (gravel, 70- to 90-year-old vines, aged 18 months in concrete vats), L’Huisserie (high hillside and flint clay plateau) and especially Coteau de Noiré (steep south-facing clay-limestone slope) have seduced Cabernet Franc lovers with their dark color and incredible density. But no established recipe is established by Philippe Alliet, a fine taster and outstanding winemaker, supported by his son, Pierre, since 2005, who helps him craft ever deeper and more stylized wines. From 2010, Bordeaux barrels disappeared in favor of 500-liter barrels and the proportion of new wood decreased significantly.
