Château Cos d’Estournel, located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, is one of the “Super Seconds” of the Médoc. Cos d’Estournel was created by a singular character, who was nicknamed the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe” because of his taste for the Orient and especially for “return of the Indies” wines. An exceptional terroir, numerous efforts and major investments have enabled this estate to achieve rapid growth. Today, Cos d’Estournel plays in the big leagues of Bordeaux. Since 2000 it has been owned by Michel Reybier.
As soon as Michel Reybier arrived at the head of the property, important strategic decisions were put in place.
The main building - topped with pagodas - is completely renovated, and a unique winery in the world is being built, entirely gravity-powered. Its 72 frustoconical stainless steel vats allow careful plot vinification, while respecting the most total product.
The 91 hectares of Cabernet-Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%) take root in deep gravel soil, benefiting from the same climate as its neighbor, the prestigious Château Lafite Rothschild.
The property now offers a range of 4 wines. We find the Cos d'Estournel vintage, a fascinating, opulent and voluptuous wine and its second wine the Pagodes de Cos described as bright, silky and charming. Finally, there is also a version of Cos d’Estournel in white, and a smaller wine, very fruity, Goulée by Cos d’Estournel.
