Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2002

It was in 1365 that the name of a vineyard located at "Cloux des Lambrey" first appeared in the titles of the Abbey of Citeaux.

The Clos des Lambrays was divided among 74 different owners during the Revolution of 1789. Beginning in 1868, the Clos gradually began to be reunited. Louis Joly renovated the building that had been constructed in 1630. In 1866, Albert Sébastien Rodier completed the work. He had two grandsons, Camille and Albert; Camille, founder of the Brotherhood of the Knights of Tastevin, and Albert, manager of the family estate. In 1938, Albert transferred the estate to his friend Renée Cosson. From then on, the property became self-contained and became known as "La Belle au Vin Dormant" (The Sleeping Beauty).

After Madame Cosson's death, Roland de Chambure and brothers Fabien and Louis Saier bought the estate in 1979. They invested heavily in the estate, and with the support of oenologist Thierry Brouin, Clos des Lambrays began to return to quality. Thanks to his skill and passion, Thierry Brouin remains the guarantor of the quality of the estate's wines until 2019.

Clos des Lambrays was classified as a Grand Cru by decree of April 27, 1981.

Since 1996, the estate has been owned by Günter and Ruth Freund, from Koblenz, who have long known and appreciated Burgundy. They have poured their heart and soul into the château's restoration and have invested heavily in the vineyard.

Following Günter Freund's death in 2010, Ruth and the Freund children sold Domaine des Lambrays to LVMH in April 2014. A remarkable chapter in the history of Clos des Lambrays has just been turned. The future of Domaine des Lambrays is assured. Thierry Brouin will remain at the helm until his successor, Jacques Devauges, takes office in March 2019.
