For over 10 years, Château Cheval Blanc has challenged itself to produce a great white wine from this small 6.6-hectare vineyard nestled within its elder's plot. A true white expression of Cheval Blanc's identity, this wine is a blend of some 12 different plots, on clay, sandy and gravelly soils, where the 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon flourish perfectly.

Details

Owned by Bernard Arnaud and Albert Frère since 1998, Pierre Lurton is responsible for managing and guiding the future of Château Cheval Blanc. Surrounded by a young and brilliant team, including Pierre-Olivier Clouet and Arnaud de Laforcade, he has made Cheval Blanc shine. With him, perfection is achieved slowly through hard work, rigor, attention to detail, and kindness. The extreme care given to the vines, the winemaking techniques, and the winemakers' decisions are all carefully considered to achieve the single goal of quality. In June 2011, the new winery, with its avant-garde architecture, was inaugurated. Exuding calm and tranquility, the winery offers a glimpse of what future generations of Cheval Blanc will produce: elegant, pure, majestic, simple, and straightforward wines.

The 39-hectare vineyard is composed of 45 plots. Each one benefits from a specificity in terms of exposure, subsoil or grape variety. This exceptional terroir is so unique that all its plots have been used at least once in the composition of the great wine. Unlike what characterizes the Saint-Émilion appellation, the château's vines do not rest on the limestone plateau. They therefore rest on three types of soil: clay, coarse gravel and finer sandy gravel. The grape varieties are also unique in Saint-Émilion with 47% Cabernet Franc, 47% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 1996, the property has been conducting significant soil analysis and ampelographic research. This allows the property to build and preserve its own plant portfolio. Here, the oldest vines date back to 1920, and they have never been treated with any pesticide.
