A true symbol of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in the appellation. Witnessing more than nine centuries of history, the Château La Nerthe vineyard was founded in the 12th century. The Popes established their summer residence in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Rhône Valley, and gave the appellation's wines the necessary impetus to achieve the international reputation they enjoy today.
The various owners over the centuries managed to maintain the excellence of Château La Nerthe's wines.
Nestled in a lush green setting, Château La Nerthe is located between Avignon and Orange, near the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In this magnificent Provençal setting, the majestic Château La Nerthe overlooks an exceptional architectural heritage, with its cellars dating from the 16th and 18th centuries, and a winegrowing heritage, with its 92-hectare vineyard, certified organic since 1998. With more than 200 days of sunshine per year, the Mediterranean microclimate enjoyed by Château La Nerthe allows it to achieve excellent grape ripeness with early harvests.
Typical of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, the very stony terroir of Château La Nerthe is made up of the famous rolled pebbles. Cultivating the 13 grape varieties of the appellation, Château La Nerthe produces great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, both red and white, distinguished by their richness and complexity, and displaying great longevity potential.
