Details

The Malet-Roquefort family, which still exists today, was born from the union of Louis Malet de la Forie and Marguerite de Calvimont in 1654. In 1705, the family settled in Saint-Emilion. Louis and Marguerite's son married a woman named Isabeau. This union allowed the Malet family to incorporate the La Gaffelière vineyards into their estate.

In 1990, a major restructuring was undertaken. In 2004, Alexandre and Léo de Malet-Roquefort began their collaboration with Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Château la Gaffelière is located on the southern slopes of Saint-Emilion. The 38 hectares of vines are planted with Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) on soils of clay and limestone with asteroids, punctuated by green marl. This unique location allows for natural soil drainage through the slope, as well as water regulation for the vines thanks to the clay.

All the efforts made over the past four centuries have enabled Château La Gaffelière's wine to become one of the Premier Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Emilion according to the 1959 classification.
