Beychevelle's identity is based on a legend. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Château became the property of the First Duke of Épernon. Its power was such that ships sailing on the Gironde were required to lower their sails at the château, as a sign of respect and allegiance to the Duke. At this time, the estate acquired its emblem, the ship with a griffin prow, and its Gascon name, meaning "Lower Sail," became Beychevelle.
A superb property with magnificent gardens, Château Beychevelle is one of the most prestigious wines in the Saint-Julien appellation, located on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. More radiant than ever, the property boasts a new, cutting-edge winery designed by architect Arnaud Boulain.
Among the 250 hectares of the estate, Château Beychevelle oversees 90 hectares of vines planted with typical Médoc grape varieties: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot.
The uniqueness of the Beychevelle terroir lies in its magnificent Garonne gravel hillsides and its close proximity to the Gironde River, a climate regulator and protector.
Exceptional wines, the style of Château Beychevelle is defined by the consistency of its excellent quality vintages. Powerful, full-bodied, and structured, they elegantly express the finesse of the great Saint-Julien terroir. Designed for aging, the wines of Château Beychevelle evolve superbly over time.
