This English-style château, built by John-Lewis Brown in the early 19th century, is one of the most original estates in the entire Médoc region. The estate comprises 48 hectares of vines, in addition to 20 hectares of parkland, which is a veritable nature reserve for all the animals that wish to nest there. The property has been owned by the Le Lous family since 2019.
The three grape varieties grown here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, mostly planted in Cantenac (as the château's name suggests), where the soils are clay-limestone and composed of gravel.
In the vineyards, the work is meticulous and environmentally friendly: plowing and composting. The vines are disbudded, leaf-stripped, and then de-suckered to ensure the berries reach their optimum ripeness. Harvesting is done by hand, and careful sorting is performed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aging takes place in barrels.
The reputation of Cantenac Brown wines is due in particular to the power of their bouquet, their elegance, and their finesse. Their lively and smooth character reveals the characteristic flavor of Margaux wines and the charming qualities of Saint-Julien.
