Château Léoville Poyferré, a Médoc Second Cru Classé in 1855 whose origins date back to the early 17th century, is one of the most prestigious estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. Masterfully managed by the Cuvelier family and neighboring illustrious estates such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Poyferré benefits from a terroir renowned for its lean Garonne gravel soils, ideal for the vineyard's development. In a perpetual quest for perfection, the plot-by-plot vinifications are overseen by oenologist Michel Rolland, in order to gently extract the most authentic expression of each grape variety and each plot. The wines of Château Léoville Poyferré dazzle with their elegance, depth, balance, and power.
The 2021 Château Léoville Poyferré is a Saint-Julien wine from a 60-hectare vineyard, with vines averaging 41 years old planted on Mindel gravel terraces with sandy-clay subsoils.
Harvested manually in crates, the grapes are rigorously sorted to retain only the highest-quality berries. Vinification by plot is carried out in temperature-controlled truncated stainless steel vats. Cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Aging takes place for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels (80% new, 20% used).
This Château Léoville Poyferré 2021 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
