Founded in 1661 on the lands of the Noble House of Gassies by Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, the Rauzan estate remained under the management of the founding family for over two centuries. Two significant events stand out during this period. The first was the division of the vineyard into two separate properties in 1763: Château Rauzan-Gassies and the Rauzan estate. The second was the arrival of Catherine de Rauzan, Baroness de Ségla, at the helm of the estate in 1816. On this occasion, the estate changed its name and was henceforth known as Château Rauzan-Ségla.
In 1866, Château Rauzan-Ségla, whose wine was highly prized (a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855), changed hands for the first time. From this date to the beginning of the 20th century, it was Eugène Durand-Dassier, a man of faith and businessman, who presided over the production of the wine of this Margaux vintage. Having had various owners during the 20th century (Frédéric Cruse, Philippe de Meslon, John Holt), Château Rauzan-Ségla has been in the hands of the Wertheimer family since 1994, who undertook major work to modernize the vineyard and carried out high-profile operations to promote the wine of their property (the 2009 vintage label was designed by the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, for example).
