Surrounded by the Châteaux of Canon, Tertre-Daugay, La Gaffelière, and Belair, the Château Magdelaine vineyard has two distinctive features: its soil, with its limestone plateau and clay slopes, and the estate's elevation difference of 25 to 75 meters.
The wines of Magdelaine, which contain the highest proportion of Merlot in the Saint-Émilion region, have earned an excellent reputation thanks to the Moueix estate, which acquired it in 1952 from the Chatonnet family. Since the vineyards of Châteaux of Magdelaine and Bélair-Monange have merged, Château Magdelaine no longer appears as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the list of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classés, revised in 2012.
