Details

The Heidsieck champagne house was founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck in 1785 in Reims, a German who had fallen in love with a woman from Champagne. It wasn't until the next generation that the house became Piper-Heidsieck, when his nephew, Christian Heidsieck, joined forces with Henri-Guillaume Piper. During the 19th century, Piper-Heidsieck became the champagne of crowned heads, supplying fourteen royal courts. Following deaths and marriages, the house passed into the hands of Jacques-Charles Théodore Kunkelmann in 1870, then Jean de Suarez d'Aulan in 1926. His son, François d'Aulan, presided over the house until 1988. The house was then purchased by the Rémy Cointreau group. In 2011, businessman Christopher Descours bought it and added the sister company Charles Heidseick to his portfolio.
