Solaia is a 10-hectare Tuscan vineyard with a southwest-facing aspect, situated at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters in the province of Tignanello. Like Tignanello, Solaia is the creation of Piero Antinori, whose family has been instrumental in establishing Tuscany's global reputation throughout its 600-year history.
Unlike Tignanello, Solaia's blend contains more Cabernet Sauvignon than Sangiovese, but this Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon stands out from its Bordeaux counterpart. This wine, whose 1997 vintage was named the best wine in the world by Wine Spectator, is produced only in exceptional years and receives the utmost care. It completes its fermentation in French oak barrels, is then blended and aged in barriques for one year.
