Gosset is renowned for being the oldest of the Champagne houses. The Gosset family tree can be traced back to 1484 in Aÿ, but it was in 1584 that Jean Gosset truly founded the house that bears his name. His descendants ran the house for over 400 years, weathering various invasions under Louis XIV, during the French Revolution, the fall of the First Empire in 1815 and the Second Empire in 1870, as well as the phylloxera crisis, the trench warfare of World War I, and Prohibition in the United States. In 1993, the 16th generation of Gossets sold the house to the Renaud-Cointreau group, which also owns Frapin Cognac and Verveine du Velay. The Gosset house is now headed by Jean-Pierre Cointreau. Its flagship cuvée is its Brut Grande Réserve.

The oldest Champagne wine house, founded in 1584, has been owned by the Renaud-Cointreau group since 1994.
